The Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department will have a bit of an easier time fighting the fires after getting a new truck on Thursday, December 23.

It took two firefighters just over six hours to drive him from Snyder, Nebraska to Scottsbluff.

One of the new additions is built-in cabinets on both sides of the truck allowing the rural fire department to take more firefighting equipment to fire scenes, said Carissa Schank, captain. of service.

Schank said it was also able to traverse more terrain than the last truck owned by the fire department.

“This one is higher so it will be nicer to go back to places we couldn’t access with the old truck,” said Schank.

The new fire truck is not a platform like the previous truck, which makes water spraying much easier. The new truck has a staircase leading to a platform around the pump.

“Another characteristic that the other had no small door to step up. Yes, you can actually fight fire by standing on your back, so (the old one was) kind of like a flat bed, right? So we didn’t have that ability even though we sometimes had it anyway. It is an element of security, ”she declared.
