Milwaukee Fire Department launches Fire Prevention Week

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Firefighters visited Townsend Street School on Monday to educate first, second and third graders about fire safety.

Fire Chief Aaron Lipski told the students his crews were busy fighting fires in the city and needed help to prevent the fires from breaking out.

“We do a really, really good job with the Milwaukee Fire Department coming out of fire trucks when things are on fire, or if you have a car accident. We do a really good job that way. But honestly. , we would rather not have to come up with other fires where you might be stuck inside, ”Lipski told the students.

Chef Lipski encouraged the children to watch out for anything that could start a fire in their home, such as matches, lighters, the oven or a heater. He also encouraged children and their families to make sure there is a working smoke detector in their home and to develop an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.

Students were able to test their fire safety skills in the Survive Alive mobile home. The students pretended to be asleep when a fire alarm went off, the firefighters then asked them to check for a fire and escape through a window.

Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr Keith Posley said activities like this are critical to the overall education of students.

“As the principal of schools, I am responsible for ensuring that our children are not only educated in the classroom, but that they also have the tools they need to stay safe in an emergency at home or at school, ”Posley said.
