Local Planet Fitness donates gym equipment to Revere Fire Department

REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – When Revere Firefighters aren’t putting out fires, they’re pumping iron thanks to a generous donation.

East Boston’s Planet Fitness has donated thousands of dollars worth of gym equipment to the Revere Fire Department as the gym undergoes a renovation. The donation included treadmills, stationary bikes, new dumbbell sets, free weights and a cable machine. Revere’s four fire stations have received equipment.

Reverend Fire Lt. Michael O’Hara told WBZ’s Brooke McCarthy that the donation will help firefighters stay in shape, which is essential for a job like this.

“We’re constantly climbing stairs and always moving around,” O’Hara said. “Fighting fires can wear you out, so you need to be physically fit for the job.”

O’Hara obtained the donation by contacting the owners of the gym. He thanked Christy White, Danielle D’Amelio and owner Sal DeMartinis for working with him to donate all the equipment. He said it was normal for the new gym equipment to be kept in a room in the station with purple walls.

“With the equipment they gave us, it’s like a mini Planet Fitness here,” O’Hara said.
