Lack of fuel is hampering firefighting efforts

Mr. Rexford Nortey Agblazo, Divisional Officer, District 3 Fire Bureau, Ghana National Fire Bureau, said the firefighters are determined to deliver efficient services but lack of fuel is hampering their efforts.

He said officers faced a myriad of challenges, including a lack of bungalows for staff, a lack of fuel for firefighters and a lack of vehicles for outreach programs, especially during the harmattan period. .

Mr Agblazo was speaking at a Birim North Chiefs Association (BNAC) meeting with the National District Fire and Ambulance Service in New Abirem.

He said the office occupied by the firefighters had become a death trap and urged the Birim North District Assembly and traditional authorities to help them.

He also called on the public to be patient in the event of a fire as he had no intention of delaying the delivery of his services, blaming it on the challenges the Service was facing.

He recommended that homes, malls and stores have fire extinguishers to help fight fires during tough times, and promised to continuously educate the public on effective ways to deal with fires.

He further warned the public against providing false information to firefighters.

Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyeretwie I, Chief of Abirem and President of the Association of Chiefs of Birim North, requested the government to help the security services of Birim North district to enable them to improve the security of the population.
