Enugu State Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, Chief Okwudili Ohaa on Wednesday praised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his innovative fire operations in the state after 56 years of total neglect.
Ohaa eulogized on Wednesday in Enugu during the commemoration of International Firefighters Day (IFFD) and celebration of “Gov. Ugwuanyi administrative giant makes progress in fire repositioning a service in the state”.
He said Ugwuanyi has started the process of re-equipping in terms of human capital and providing modern firefighting equipment and vehicles for firefighters.
According to him, the governor’s innovative advances are many, including the creation of five new state-of-the-art fire stations in the three senatorial areas of the state, in line with the demand of the 21st century fire service.
He said Ugwuanyi was the first governor to provide personal protective equipment for the safety of all firefighters in the state.
“Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration has created a separate accounting unit for the state fire department.
“It removed administrative bottlenecks and red carpets in the system that affected the efficient delivery of services until he came to power,” he said.
The Comptroller General of Federal Firefighters, Mr. Jaji Abdulganiyu, said the commemoration of the International Firefighters Day aims to enlighten the public on how to prevent fires.
Abdulganiyu, represented by Mr. Chika Njoku of Federal Fire Department Area D in Enugu, commended Ugwuanyi for the innovation brought to the operations of the state fire departments so far.
In response, Ugwuanyi, who was represented by the state government secretary, Professor Simeon Ortuanya, praised the fire chief and his men for their efforts to keep the state safe.
Ugwuanyi appreciated the agency for honoring him with an “Award of Life Ambassador”.
He urged the service personnel to continue to work effectively in fulfilling their mission in the state while enjoying the continued support of the government. (
