Corsicana firefighters honor outstanding team members | New


The pandemic has suspended many ceremonies and the activities of the Corsicana firefighters are no exception. Every day, a myriad of calls come in, ranging from the mundane to the extraordinary. Many of these calls have been linked to a pandemic in recent years.

However, Corsicana Fire Rescue was able to honor its’ 2020 difference-makers last weekend with a little intimate affair.

“Due to the pandemic, we only hosted the event for our staff and families,” said Fire Chief Henley. “The new station offered the ideal location.

Numerous successes were recognized and exemplary service awards were presented. Here are the nominees and winners.

James Reed won the 2020 Firefighter of the Year award. The other two nominees were FF Page and FF Cookston.

Michael Jurik won the Rookie of the Year award. The other nominee was FF Rojas.

Mason Capello received the Paramedic of the Year award. The nominees were FF Lozano and FF Hays.

Lieutenant Huntsman was named Officer of the Year, the other nominees being Captain Underwood and Lieutenant Anthony.

“It’s so important to shine a light on the great things our departmental members are doing. So many members are quietly going above and beyond every day and deserve so much attention, but these people have risen to the top of their field in the past year or so, ”said Chief Henley.
