Boost for BX fire safety
BX-Swan Lake Fire Rescue has new structural protection equipment, thanks to a boost from RDNO.
Electoral District B (Swan Lake / Commonage) contributed $ 11,400 to finance the purchase.
The grant enabled the department to acquire two Firebozz portable sprinklers, a Wajax Mark 3 pump and a roll of Wildland hose.
âThat BX Swan Lake Fire Rescue acquires it is important to help them protect our residents at all times, but is especially critical now given the extreme wildfire conditions we have experienced this summer. The better equipped our fire departments are, the better (they are) to protect people and property, âsaid Bob Fleming, Zone B manager.
Fire Chief Bill Wacey said fighting wildfires poses unique challenges.
âGiven the location often far from forest fires, crews regularly have to travel significant distances before they can install firebreaks and attack the flames. It is important for them to have portable equipment that does not weigh them down, and that this equipment is designed to fight forest fires because they behave differently from a house fire, âWacey said.
âWe are grateful for the Electoral Zone B grant and are always eager to acquire tools that add to the safety of our community. “
The purchase was funded by the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant Fund, in which $ 798,000 was allocated to RDNO electoral areas.
