JACKSON, miss (WJTV) – Atmos Energy on Thursday donated leak detection equipment to the Jackson Fire Department (JFD) and the Mississippi Public Service Commission (MPSC).
The company donates seven Sensit Gold G2 combustible gas leak detectors, a calibration unit and
other items necessary for the maintenance of detectors. Sensit units are designed to detect 4 types of gas:
methane (natural gas), carbon monoxide (CO), oxygen (O2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
âWe respond to reports of natural gas leaks on a daily basis. However, fire departments are often the first to be called when someone thinks they smell gas or have a carbon monoxide problem in their home or business. This equipment will help the Jackson Fire Department keep residents safe, âsaid Bobby Morgan, vice president of public affairs for Atmos Energy in Mississippi.
âWe are going to use this equipment wisely,â he said. âBesides fighting fires, investigating is one of our most important jobs. Carbon monoxide is deadly and lives will be saved with this donation, âsaid Willie Owens, Jackson Fire Chief.
The total value of the donation is approximately $ 21,000.
